Fashion brands rarely remain defined by one city forever. As markets evolve and audiences become increasingly international, creative identities can travel, adapt, and find new meaning in unfamiliar environments.
For Nominal London, that evolution is now taking shape between London and Dubai, with its creative direction continuing to draw from its British roots while developing a stronger presence in the GCC.
At the center of this transition is Krisztina Kalman, Creative Director of Nominal London, who sees Dubai not as a replacement for London, but as a complementary platform for the next stage of the brand’s development. While Krisztina is developing the brand’s international direction from Dubai, Clo Lopes, Nominal London’s London-based Womenswear Designer, remains an important part of its creative foundation in the UK.
Lopes brings years of experience in garment design and pattern making and a specialised focus on silhouette, construction, and draping, combining contemporary femininity with tailoring and subcultural influences. Together, these two creative perspectives allow Nominal London to maintain its London identity while exploring how its designs can respond to new markets and cultural environments.
For Krisztina Kalman, the move is ultimately about growth without losing identity.
Building a Bridge Between Two Cities
Every brand needs to become international to grow and to fully capitalise on the heritage aspect. Krisztina Kalman explains.
Nominal London’s aesthetic is closely connected to the cultural and emotional associations people have with London and British fashion. That creative identity continues to be developed in the UK, where Clo Lopes works from London as the brand’s Womenswear Designer, while Dubai offers a very different set of possibilities for the brand’s international development.
Rather than choosing between the two, Nominal London is creating a creative bridge.
The majority of the design functions remain in the UK and Europe and we clearly keep our creative roots in London, Krisztina Kalman says.
“Dubai offers us a platform to showcase Nominal London to an international audience .”
That distinction is important to the brand’s structure. Krisztina Kalman’s role is increasingly connected to the brand’s international direction, while Clo Lopes continues to contribute from London through the design and development of womenswear.
That platform comes with practical advantages as well. Krisztina Kalman points to Dubai’s growing fashion ecosystem, including industry contacts, sales support, showcasing opportunities, and press connections that can be more difficult for an emerging brand to access in London.
The result is a structure where London remains central to Nominal London’s creative identity and design development, while Dubai becomes a gateway to broader international opportunities.
Designing for a Changing Market
The move to Dubai has also created a practical conversation around how clothing can respond to different cultural expectations.
According to Krisztina Kalman, the GCC fashion market is developing rapidly, including the way women approach personal style and appearance. For Nominal London, that means considering how existing designs can adapt without abandoning the original silhouette or design language.
That process connects directly with Clo Lopes’ design philosophy. Based in London, Lopes specialises in silhouette, construction, and draping, using unexpected contrasts between fabrics, colour, and proportion to create contemporary womenswear.
Some pieces can be modified for modest women through additional fabric, reduced transparency, or increased coverage while maintaining their fundamental shape.

For Clo, the challenge is not simply about adding coverage. It is about preserving the emotional and visual character of a garment while making it appropriate for different women and cultural preferences.
The approach allows Nominal London to retain its distinctive design language while remaining flexible across markets.
Clo Lopes and the Womenswear Perspective
As Nominal London’s Womenswear Designer, Clo Lopes brings a distinct design perspective to the brand’s development.

The Brazilian designer is based in London and specialises in garment design and pattern making, combining elegance and tailoring with contemporary femininity and subcultural influences.
His work explores contrasts between fabrics, colour, and proportion, using expressive construction and fabric manipulation to balance refinement with individuality. Romanticism, sensuality, and emotional tension are recurring elements within his approach.
That perspective becomes particularly relevant as Nominal London enters a market where fashion can require a different relationship with coverage, climate, and cultural expression.
I am always inspired by women,” Lopes explains. “Working with Middle Eastern women has naturally influenced my approach.
Working from London while engaging with a broader international audience has made him more attentive to the relationship between culture, elegance, confidence, and personal expression.
For Lopes, adaptation does not mean sacrificing the character of the clothing.
I believe my designs can be sexy without being vulgar,” he says. “That balance is very important to me.
His aim is to create pieces that retain Nominal London’s femininity through refined details, strong silhouettes, and thoughtful construction while allowing women from different cultural backgrounds to connect with the designs.
Fashion in the Dubai Climate

The physical environment also influences the design process.
Dubai’s climate requires consideration of fabrics, coverage, movement, and comfort in ways that differ from designing primarily for London. While Clo Lopes continues his design work from the UK, the realities of the Dubai market provide another consideration within the womenswear development process.
For the current collection, Lopes focused on fabrics capable of working within that cultural and weather-related environment while maintaining a polished aesthetic.
The silhouettes are feminine and softly sculpt the body, while draping plays a key role in creating fluidity and sophistication, he explains.
His approach brings together comfort, movement, coverage, and femininity, with the intention of creating clothing that feels appropriate to its environment without becoming overly conservative.

The result is intended to occupy a middle ground: refined, slightly conservative, and sensual.
The colour palette follows the same philosophy, introducing warmth and optimism while remaining within an elegant visual language.
A New Era Without Losing the Roots
Nominal London’s move to Dubai is ultimately not a story about leaving London behind.
It is about allowing two different creative and commercial environments to work together.

London remains the foundation of the brand’s creative identity and design development, with Clo Lopes continuing his work as Womenswear Designer from the UK. Dubai provides a new commercial and cultural platform from which Nominal London can engage with the GCC and wider international markets.
For Krisztina Kalman, the philosophy behind that expansion is straightforward.
We want to convey that a woman can make a strong fashion statement, and respect heritage and culture at the same time,” she says. “These are not contradicting concepts.
With Krisztina’s guiding the brand’s creative and international direction and Lopes contributing his specialised womenswear perspective from London, Nominal London is approaching its next chapter as a conversation between two cities rather than a departure from one.
